Exercise

Crystal Pier- my first youtube video ever.

So after the walk everything started to fall into place and I felt better for getting the light work out.

I maybe wrong, but it seems, Descartes made a mistake when he concluded that the mind is a separate entity from the body, the body being merely a machine. Rather the mind reacts favorably to exercise and fresh air.

Abstract

Background. Regular physical exercise has been characterized as a positive health behavior having physiological benefits. It may also yield psychological benefits. The purpose of the present study was therefore to explore the association between physical exercise frequency and a number of measures of psychological well-being in a large population-based sample.
Methods. A total of 3403 participants (1856 women and 1547 men) of the Finnish cardiovascular risk factor survey, ranging in age between 25 and 64, completed questionnaires. Besides answering questions concerning their exercise habits and perceived health and fitness, the participants also completed the Beck Depression Inventory, the State–Trait Anger Scale, the Cynical Distrust Scale, and the Sense of Coherence inventory.
Results. The results of this cross-sectional study suggest that individuals who exercised at least two to three times a week experienced significantly less depression, anger, cynical distrust, and stress than those exercising less frequently or not at all. Furthermore, regular exercisers perceived their health and fitness to be better than less frequent exercisers did. Finally, those who exercised at least twice a week reported higher levels of sense of coherence and a stronger feeling of social integration than their less frequently exercising counterparts.
Conclusions. The results indicate a consistent association between enhanced psychological well-being, as measured using a variety of psychological inventories, and regular physical exercise.

Curiosity

With the recent landing of the Curiosity on Mars, our attention is directed to the well being of those both here and the ISS.

It is difficult to comprehend the dedication, training, and discipline to do the kind of work that these fine people are doing. But there is that notion of being energized by fact that you get to be at the cutting edge of doing research on some aspect of the natural universe, which will ultimately help humankind. It is easy to get empowered...

All this time I thought this effort I have put in to do research may never go anywhere, and yet by chance over the weekend I found out that I may have helped in some small way in doing original volunteer research at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, in Guaymas, Mexico in the Sea of Cortez.

Having just graduated from UCSD with a  degree in Microbiology, a diving friend by chance, invited me to go SCUBA diving with this team for about a week to collect coelenterates, to quantify the many unknown chemical compounds for cancer research. So their Lab did come up with a cancer drug:

So sometimes we are successful and can not really comprehend the significance of the little kind acts that we can do if we try. It is amazing that now ten years later I realize that an entire sphere of activity was going on while I was unaware, a separate but parallel universe.

Here is an interesting website I have watched for a while, they delve deeper into concepts of parallel universes, and time glitches, etc.
